Reykjavik, Iceland is my favorite place on earth (so far), and Vegan World Peace is my favorite restaurant on earth. I’m not going to add “so far,” because I’m not sure I’ll find another place that speaks to my taste buds like this pan-Asian restaurant does. This review of Vegan World Peace in Reykjavik offers a glimpse into why I love it so much.

I’ve been to Reykjavik several times, and the first thing I do (actually the second, after a brief post-flight nap) is head over to Vegan World Peace, right in the center of town.
My daughter has been my companion to Reykjavik for my last three trips and she loves VWP as much as I do, so it’s not just me!

Vegan World Peace basics
Let’s start with the atmosphere: Vegan World Peace has an absolutely beautiful atmosphere, yet it’s unpretentious. You can dine in your most casual outdoorsy clothes and you won’t feel out of place. But honestly, it doesn’t matter; you won’t be thinking about what you’re wearing once the food arrives.
The location is central. At Aðalstræti 2, VWP is in the heart of downtown Reykjavik, a few steps from the harbor, the main library, shops, bookstores, a few of the many museums, and more. An incredibly walkable small city, there are literally hundreds of things to do within a 20 minute radius, and a good meal at VWP will fuel your adventures.
What style of food is served? The food can be described as pan-Asian, with VWP’s unique interpretations, like Mapo Tofu, Bahn Mi, Korean Noodles, Rice Vermicelli with Grilled Satay. Plant-based faux meat and seafood dishes like Vegan Chicken Kungpao and Fried Seafood Rolls are also available. The menu is a very extensive! As many times as I’ve been to VWP, there are still lots of dishes on the menu I haven’t tried.
Is Vegan World Peace expensive? Not really; it’s in keeping with most other quality eateries in Reykjavik, and is less expensive than touristy places. The price of a good meal at VWP is the same or less than its equivalent in New York City and other major US cities. In US dollars a main dish is about $18 – $20; about $17 – $19 Euro, a great value for the price in terms of your dining experience.
Does Vegan World Peace serve alcohol? No, but there are several refreshing beverages and smoothies to accompany your meal.
Vegan, with lots of gluten-free options: The food is 100% plant-based, of course, and there are many GF options as well.
Can you do carry-out (aka take-away)?: Of course, that’s always an option if you’d like to eat at home or in your vacation rental. I prefer to dine in, though, because I love how the food comes so beautifully plated.
Menus and sample dishes
To whet your appetite, scroll down VWP’s web page to see some of the Chef’s Specialties (the photos are a lot better than mine, which follow these menus).

A few dishes we’ve enjoyed at VWP
As mentioned before, our phone photos aren’t as wonderful as those on VWP’s website. And my apologies if I’ve mislabeled some …

Bun Bo Hue

Chow Mein (I think)

Mapo Tofu

Korean Noodles (I think — again, not sure)

Vegan Wonton Soup

VWP has yummy vegan desserts as well;
I don’t remember exactly what these are, but one of them is tiramisu
Loving Hut: VWP’s sister restaurant in Reykjavik
About a 20 minute walk from Vegan World Peace, you’ll find Loving Hut at Laugavegur 164. The two eateries are somehow connected. The atmosphere of Loving Hut isn’t as pretty as VWP, but the plant-based food is quite delicious as well. Find out lots more on Loving Hut’s website; here’s their menu.

Vegan Pho

I don’t remember what this is, but it’s beautiful to behold as well as delicious.
