Combining brewed coffee, plant-based milk, cocoa, and maca root powder, this mocha maca beverage will give you a boost on a chilly day, served hot. Or, serve this mocha maca coffee drink over ice to refresh you on warm days.
Though maca root powder isn’t sweet on its own, its pleasantly malty (or caramel-like) flavor makes it compatible with beverages like this one. This mocha maca recipe makes 2 to 3 servings.
Ingredients for mocha maca coffee
- Brewed coffee (you’ll need 1 1/2 cups; caffeinated or decaf)
- 1 1/2 cups plant-based milk (oat, almond, cashew, etc.)
- Sweetener of choice (agave, maple syrup, natural granulated sugar), as desired
- Maca root powder
- Dry unsweetened cocoa or cacao powder
- Vegan creamer (oat, almond, etc., optional)
- Ground cinnamon or cinnamon sticks
Variations
- To serve cold, simply combine the ingredients except optional vegan creamer and cinnamon in a blender and process for a few seconds; divide among 2 to 3 glasses or tumblers with a few ice cubes. Add a splash of vegan creamer if you’d like a richer beverage. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon or serve with cinnamon sticks.
- Use decaf coffee if you prefer, or if the combination of maca and caffeine makes you jittery.

Hot or Cold or Mocha Maca Coffee
Combining coffee, plant-based milk, cocoa, and maca root powder, this mocha maca beverage will give you a boost on a chilly day served hot. Or, serve this maca coffee recipe over ice to refresh you on warm days.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups brewed coffee (caffeinated or decaf)
- 1 1/2 cups plant-based milk (oat, almond, cashew, etc.)
- Sweetener of choice (agave, maple syrup, natural granulated sugar), as desired
- 2 to 3 teaspoons maca root powder
- 1 tablespoon dry unsweetened cocoa or cacao powder
- Vegan creamer (almond, coconut, soy, etc.), as desired, optional
- Ground cinnamon or cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Combine the coffee and plant-based milk in a small saucepan and heat until starting to simmer. (see Notes for iced variation)
- Sweeten as you’d like, or omit if you prefer your mocha unsweetened.
- Remove from the heat and whisk in the maca and cocoa. If clumpy, use a hand blender, or whirl through a blender.
- Divide between two or three mugs. Serve with a splash of vegan creamer if you’d like a richer drink. Top with a sprinkling of cinnamon or provide full cinnamon sticks. Serve hot (or cold, see Notes).
Notes
To serve cold, skip the cooking in step 1. Simply combine the ingredients except creamer and cinnamon in a blender and process for a few seconds.
