The inspiration for “Passion Fruit Martinis are Announced”
The full title of this recipe, “Passion Fruit Martinis are Announced” references Agatha’s fiftieth book, A Murder Is Announced. It’s often considered a staple of crime fiction and the best of all Miss Marple novels. Miss Marple, on holiday in nearby Medenham Wells, is ably assisted by Inspector Craddock.
The villagers of Chipping Cleghorn are bursting with curiosity over an advertisement in the local gazette that reads, “A murder is announced and will take place on Friday, October 29th, at Little Paddocks at 6:30 p.m.” Unable to resist, a crowd gathers at the appointed time.
Suddenly, the lights go out and a gunshot explodes. A novel of redemption, this story has more motives than a well-greased hinge, and no one is who they seem. If invited, would you go?
The mocktail variation
The boozy version of this cocktail is made with vodka and passion fruit liqueur; since Agatha Christie famously abstained from alcohol, Colleen thoughtfully provides a mocktail variation for each recipe.
For this one, she suggests replacing the vodka with Seedlip Grove 42 or another nonalcoholic spirit and the liqueur with Belvoir Passion Fruit Martini or another non-alcoholic passion fruit liqueur.
