Broccoli and cauliflower have complementary flavors and look appealing together. This simple broccoli and cauliflower stir-fry is a perfect side dish for grain or noodle main dishes; or it can be served over either to make a more substantial dish.
Simply flavored with garlic, soy sauce, and dried hot red pepper flakes (Korean gochugaru is good, too), this dish comes together quickly to round out Asian-themed meals.
What to serve with broccoli and cauliflower stir-fry
As mentioned, you can serve this over plain grains or noodles, and then round out the meal with your favorite plant protein and a platter of raw vegetables.

Ingredients
- Dark sesame oil
- Garlic (2 to 3 cloves)
- Dry white wine (optional)
- Broccoli (1 good-size crown)
- Cauliflower (1 small; only about half is needed)
- Ginger, 1 fresh knob or from bottled ginger
- Sliced or slivered almonds (½ cup)
- Hot cooked grains or noodles, optional

Almond Broccoli and Cauliflower Stir-fry
This simple broccoli and cauliflower stir-fry is a perfect side dish for grain or noodle main dishes; or it can be served over either to make a more substantial dish.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon dark sesame oil
- 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ cup dry white wine (or water)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
- 1 to 2 teaspoons grated fresh or bottled ginger, to taste
- 1 teaspoon natural granulated sugar
- 3 heaping cups broccoli, cut into bite-size pieces and florets
- 3 heaping cups cauliflower, cut into bite-size pieces and florets
- Dried hot red pepper flakes or gochugaru, to taste
- ½ cup sliced or slivered toasted almonds
- Hot cooked grains or noodles, optional
Instructions
- Heat the sesame oil in a stir-fry pan. Add the garlic and sauté over low heat for a minute or so.
- Add the wine, soy sauce, ginger, and sugar. Turn the heat to medium-high and add the broccoli and cauliflower. Stir quickly to coat them. Stir-fry until both are just tender-crisp, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Season with dried hot red pepper flakes. Sprinkle on the almonds and serve at once, on its own as a side dish or over hot cooked grains or noodles.
