In these easy vegan jerk chick’n wraps, the savory and spicy plant protein contrasts beautifully with the slightly sweet coleslaw. This recipe yield 2 to 3 generous wraps, depending on the size of the wrapper itself.
For these wraps, you can use any kind of plant-based chick’n-style protein or baked tofu. Either way, it comes together with a good-quality bottled jerk sauce, or an easy DIY jerk sauce from your kitchen.
A few tips:
- Complete the meal: Accompany with baked or microwaved sweet potato. The salad portion of your meal is in the wrap!
- This recipe makes 2 hefty wraps; double it for 4 servings, and halve it for one generous meal.
- You can use fresh or canned pineapple for the slaw.
- See Plant-Based Chicken Alternatives to Look For, or use a package of baked tofu, which works very well in these wraps.
If you’d like to make your own Jamaican-inspired easy jerk sauce …
By all means use a good bottled sauce if you have a favorite; if not, you can easily make your own, as follows:
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch or arrowroot
- 2/3 cup juice fresh or bottled orange juice
- 2 tablespoons molasses or agave
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
- Juice of 1 lime (or 2 to 3 tablespoons bottled lime juice)
- 1 small hot chile pepper, seeded and minced, or 1/2 teaspoon dried hot red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon Jamaican jerk seasoning blend (see Notes)
Dissolve the cornstarch in 2 tablespoons or so of water in a small bowl. Add the remaining sauce ingredients and whisk together.
Use as directed as recipes; by adding this sauce to a recipe toward the end of cooking time and cooking briefly, it will thicken up nicely.
Note: Jamaican jerk seasoning blend is available in the spice section of well-stocked supermarkets. One readily available brand is McCormick. You can also explore Caribbean groceries, natural foods stores, and online sources.

Vegan Jerk Chick’n Wraps with Pineapple Coleslaw

The savory and spicy vegan chick’n or baked tofu contrasts beautifully with the slightly sweet coleslaw in these generous wraps.
Ingredients
Pineapple Slaw
- 2 cups thinly shredded cabbage or precut coleslaw
- 1/2 medium red bell pepper, finely diced, optional
- 1/4 cup vegan mayonnaise
- Chopped fresh cilantro as desired
- 1/2 cup fresh pineapple, finely chopped, or canned crushed pineapple, well drained
- 1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice
- Freshly ground pepper to taste
The rest
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 7 to 8 ounces chick’n-style plant protein or baked tofu
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup good-quality bottled jerk sauce
- Two 10-inch wraps
- Vegan mayonnaise as needed
- 1/2 small hot chili pepper (jalapeño or other), seeded and sliced, optional
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir together. Let the slaw sit for 10 minutes or so if time allows, to let the flavors blend and for the cabbage to soften. This may make a bit more than what you need for the two wraps, so save any left over to enjoy on its own.
- Heat the oil in a medium skillet. Add the plant protein or tofu and sauté over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until golden brown on most sides.
- Turn the heat down to medium. Start with 1/3 cup jerk sauce and continue to cook for a minute or two, until the sauce envelopes the protein nicely. Drizzle in a bit more if you’d like — this should be saucy but not drippy.
- Lay one wrap on a plate or cutting board. Spread a small amount of mayo over most of the surface (this will help keep it together). Divide the coleslaw between the wraps, arranging it in a somewhat oblong mound in the center. Arrange the chick’n strips or tofu over it, and top with half of the chili pepper, if using.
- Fold two ends of the wrap over, then roll up snugly in the opposite direction, making sure the ends stay tucked in. Repeat with the remaining wrap. Cut each in half and serve at once.
