Silken tofu is the secret to this vegan chocolate mousse pie —it has just the right consistency to create a smooth and creamy texture. It just might be the most luscious silken tofu dessert ever!
Your choice of crust: If you’re more ambitious, use your favorite homemade pastry or cookie crust. Otherwise, any good-quality prepared plant-based pastry or graham cracker crust works fine.
Only 5 essential ingredients!
- 12.3-ounce aseptic packages extra-firm silken tofu (you’ll need two)
- Semi-sweet vegan chocolate chips
- Pure maple syrup
- 9-inch good-quality crust, pastry or graham cracker, as you prefer
- 1 to 2 medium bananas or several hulled strawberries
And one entirely optional ingredient:
- Vegan whipped topping (coconut or other)
Another ingredient you’ll need is patience! Make sure to let the pie cool completely, then chill for at least an hour or two so it will cut cleanly.
About silken tofu: Though silken tofu is also available in 14- to 16-ounce tubs, the 12.3 ounce aseptic (shelf-stable) packages provide just the right amount for this recipe.
In addition to making wonderful dessert puddings or pie filling, as in this recipe, silken tofu is ideal to puree and use as a base for soups, dips, and sauces. The most widely available brand is Mori-nu.

Vegan Chocolate Mousse Pie

Silken tofu is the secret to this vegan chocolate mousse pie —it has just the right consistency to create a smooth and creamy texture.
Ingredients
- Two 12.3-ounce aseptic packages silken tofu
- 1 cup semi-sweet vegan chocolate chips
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup, or to taste
- 9-inch good-quality crust, pastry or graham cracker, as you prefer
- 1 to 2 medium bananas or several hulled strawberries, thinly sliced
- Vegan whipped topping (coconut or other) for garnish, optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350º F.
- Puree the tofu in a food processor until completely smooth. Transfer to a small saucepan and add the chocolate chips and syrup. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring often, until the chocolate chips have melted.
- Pour the mixture into the crust and bake for 30 minutes, or until the top of the pudding feels firm to the touch. Allow to cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least an hour, preferably two.
- Just before serving, arranged banana or strawberry slices around the perimeter of the pie in concentric, slightly overlapping circles. Pipe some whipped topping along the edge as well, if using (or just dollop it on!). Cut into wedges to serve.
