This incredibly refreshing ginger-mint limeade is a creation by Timothy Pakron, AKA Mississippi Vegan. Timothy writes: “There’s nothing quite as refreshing as a cool glass of lemonade on a hot Mississippi day. When I was a little boy, we would always have a lemonade stand and sell a cup for $1.
That flashback came to me one day recently when I was working in the yard … I was craving something juicy and refreshing. I knew in my heart an ice-cold glass of lemonade would do the trick, but I decided to change things up and make something a tad more interesting.
Instead of using only lemons, I added limes to the mix along with fresh mint and ginger. Instead of using refined sugar, I used maple syrup. It’s a ridiculously refreshing beverage reminiscent of classic Southern-style lemonade, but a bit more wholesome and sophisticated.”

Ginger-Mint Limeade
This is a ridiculously refreshing beverage reminiscent of classic Southern-style lemonade, but a bit more sophisticated.
Ingredients
- 2 to 3 juicy lemons
- 5 to 6 juicy limes, plus slices for garnish
- 2 cups packed fresh mint sprigs, plus some for garnish
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 6 Tbsps chopped fresh ginger, (about 3 ounces)
- 1 cup ice
Instructions
- Line a fine-mesh strainer with a large piece of cheesecloth, folded over once. There should be enough excess cheesecloth hanging around the strainer to pull up the sides and squeeze the mixture.
- In a high-powered blender, combine 6 cups filtered water, lemon juice, lime juice, mint, maple syrup, ginger, and ice. Blend on high until smooth.
- Pour into the cheesecloth-lined sieve. Once most of the liquid has been strained, gently pull the cheesecloth up on each side and twist and squeeze gently, squeezing out the remaining liquid.
- To serve, fill glasses with ice and pour the limeade over. Garnish with lime slices and fresh mint sprigs.
