Farmbox Direct: Is it a Good Choice for Produce Delivery?

August 19, 2020Updated August 19, 2022 By Jeanette Sherer Leave a Comment

Farmbox Direct produce delivery

Farmbox Direct is one of the premier food delivery services that brings fresh produce right to your doorstep. Here we’ll explore how it works.

There are times when grocery shopping can be inconvenient, but the new wave of online resources for having orders delivered straight to the doorstep can open up a whole world of fresh produce. This is especially handy if you don’t have farmer’s markets or CSAs in your area, or can’t get out to them.

Fortunately, produce delivery subscriptions like Farmbox Direct can make life easier. Many shoppers have flocked to Amazon Prime and Instacart for their needs, which is why these major chains are having a hard time keeping up with demand.

Farmbox Direct offers a fantastic alternative. By choosing to shop with them, you can receive a wide range of quality, fresh fruits and veggies, while supporting farmers, who, even under the best of circumstances, could use more support.

How It Works

Subscribing is super easy. Just enter your zip code on the site to find out if they deliver to your area. Then, create an online account and choose a subscription. Farmbox Direct offers a variety of subscription boxes so you’ll be able to choose the best option to fit your needs.

Prices are affordable, ranging from $44 for the smallest box to $69 for the largest. By linking the makers and consumers directly and cutting out middle parties such as big box retailers, Farmbox Direct is able to offer prices that compete with your supermarkets and farmers’ markets.

Once you’ve checked out, you’ll receive an email from the company at the beginning of each week informing you of the contents of your next box. You can visit your online account to make up to five changes to your box as needed, ensuring you’ll always receive only the goods you’ll actually use.

Advantages of Subscribing to Farmbox Direct

Advantages of Subscribing to Farmbox Direct

Once you subscribe to Farmbox Direct, you get the most scrumptious, freshest fruits and vegetables straight from the source! Plus, the foods in these boxes have shorter distribution cycles, faster delivery times, and most importantly, a minimal number of people handling them.

As long as you live in the continental U.S., you can receive organic fruits and vegetables that haven’t been chemically altered by fertilizers, pesticides, or growth hormones, among other additives. You’ll also get your hands on seasonal produce, some of which you may have never tried before (unlike in the supermarket, where there’s a limited inventory).

The menu changes every week, so you’ll never get bored! The diversity of the produce you’ll receive will develop your palate and push you to experiment further in your cooking.

You also have the option to customize your box to minimize food waste. Choose from small, medium, and large boxes, and select either All Natural or Only Organic. If you’re on a juicing cleanse or simply love to make fresh juices at home, you can also choose from their Green, Orange, and Red boxes.

Although most of the items have been preselected, you can make up to five substitutions. So, if there’s something in the box you don’t like, you can substitute something else.

Each box comes in eco-friendly and biodegradable packaging that can be reused or recycled. There’s also a recipe card included that offers suggestions on what dishes you can whip up using the box’s contents.

There’s no commitment involved in the subscription. You can choose to subscribe for only one box, or you can choose to receive them continuously. If you’re going out of town or don’t have time to cook, simply cancel and then resume the service at any time.

Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Farm Box

To maintain the freshness of your products, be sure to store your produce properly. Store your vegetables in a clean container and keep them in the crisper of your fridge. Separate the fruits from your veggies to prevent them from ripening too fast.

  • Running out of ideas for your next meal? Check out the recipes on the Farmbox Direct website. There’s a featured recipe each week, and you can filter your search by choosing from main dishes, salads, side dishes, and desserts.
  • If you’re pleased with your experience at Farmbox Direct, you can also spread the word to friends and family. For every successful referral, you’ll earn a $10 credit on your account, which you can use on future subscriptions.
  • Farmbox Direct sounds like a great deal and provides a much-needed service. There’s little to lose by giving it a try, so get a box of fresh produce to liven up mealtimes at home — and get more fresh organic fruits and veggies into your life!
